INTRODUCTION OF KANSAI BRANCH OF JAPAN PATENT ATTTORNEYS ASSOCIATION

Kansai branch of Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA Kansai) is one of the most active sub-organization of Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA). JPAA is the only accredited organization composed of Japanese patent attorneys. Patent attorneys are the qualified experts on intellectual property (IP), such as patent, utility model, design, trademark and so on in Japan.
JPAA Kansai is located in Osaka and consisted of JPAA members located in Kansai area including Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Shiga, Nara and Wakayama prefectures. The current number of its member reaches around 2,300, that is, almost a quarter of JPAA members.
The JPAA Kansai has provided support and training with the members of JPAA Kansai. That means the members of JPAA Kansai have been brushing up their practice technique and sharing the knowledge of IP matters each other. The JPAA Kansai has also provided support and training with the people related to IP matters except the JPAA members. Concretely, JPAA Kansai has provided seminars with JPAA members and others. Additionally, JPAA Kansai has provided workshops with students and small and medium-sized companies, and free consultation service with independent inventors.
The JPAA Kansai currently has thirteen committees including the International Affairs Committee (IAC). The IAC organizes and hosts foreign IP seminars, issue reports and information on foreign IP matters to the JPAA Kansai members. The IAC’s seminars are held four or five times per year. Additionally, the IAC dispatches its delegation to obtain the first-hand information and establishes close relationship with foreign organizations, so far the delegation was sent to China twice, Thailand and Singapore once each in last four years. The JPAA Kansai welcomes foreign IP experts to exchange IP and its related information. JPAA Kansai hopes to establish good and close relationship with the foreign IP experts.
